My name is Alison Cooke. I am 33 years old, a graduate of Belmont University, and was one of the many professionals affected by the downturn in our economy. However, I have landed on my feet because I am a firm believer that every closed door leads to a new and exciting opportunity.

In October 2008 my position as the public relations coordinator for Southern Land Company (a real estate development company headquartered in Williamson County) was eliminated due to the economy and declining home sales. My position was eliminated the week after I was recognized as their “Employee of The Quarter.”

I am now the Events and Marketing Coordinator for an organization I believe in and I really feel like my work is saving lives. While I may not have hands on interaction with clients, the money I raise and the work I do helps fund nurses and counselors who are there for women, men and families at their most desperate time.

As much as I love my position and believe in the mission of my organization, I am always looking for networking opportunities and ways I can advance in my career.
